The Inside Story of S’well Bottles

One day I was hiking in the desert, miserable because I was drinking luke warm water out of a reusable water bottle…again. I thought, “why isn’t there a bottle that can keep my water cold? And keep my coffee hot? And why can’t this bottle be elegant and beautiful, at home in the board room or hiking a trail?”

During the next year of designing, re-designing, testing and gaining FDA approval, I also became aware of the world water crisis. I have this picture framed over my desk and it is my touchstone.

These women spend hours walking to get water. Their watering hole is shared with animals who use it for bathing and drinking. The women, children and men in their village are sick all the time from drinking this water, but it’s their only option.

That’s why we donate 10% of sales to WaterAid, a 501(c)(3) organization that improves access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities in Africa and Asia.

My dream with S’well is to allow those without options to be provided clean drinking water, while at the same time encourage those with clean water to appreciate it, and drink it from a reusable water bottle that marries fashion and function.
